We did not begin Pukalani Nazarene Compassion Village knowing exactly what it would become. We began with the need in front of us. Again and again, as that need grew, the Lord provided people, resources, relationships, and opportunities that we could not have created on our own. One of those gifts was the opportunity to acquire approximately 1.5 acres of R-3 residential land next to our existing property. For us, that land represents much more than additional acreage. It represents room. Room for more deeply affordable housing. Room for neighbors who need a place to regain their footing. Room for families. Room for community. Room to keep building on a model that we have seen bring people together in ways housing alone cannot.
Continuing the Village
Our hope is to continue developing this property thoughtfully as the Lord provides, adding deeply affordable housing and the infrastructure, gathering places, outreach resources, gardens, and community spaces that allow the Village to work as a whole. We are not interested in placing as many houses as possible on a piece of land and calling the problem solved. We want to create places where people can belong. Places where neighbors know one another. Where support is close. Where keiki can play. Where food can grow. Where people can gather around a table. Where someone going through a hard season is surrounded by a community rather than separated from one. That is the model we want to continue.

As the Lord Provides
Our vision does not end at the property we currently have. Maui needs deeply affordable housing, and the gap between what many local families earn and what housing costs continues to leave too many of our neighbors vulnerable. As the Lord provides land, resources, partners, and opportunity, our hope is to continue creating places of home and community throughout the years ahead. That may mean expanding the Village here in Pukalani. Someday, it may mean acquiring other land and carrying this model somewhere else it is needed. We do not know every step ahead. We do know who has provided each step behind us. So we will continue to pray, listen, build carefully, and make room when God gives us the opportunity.

There are people who will one day call the Village home whom we have not met yet. There are families who will need support we do not know about yet. There are pieces of land, partnerships, and opportunities we cannot see yet. We believe Christ is already ahead of us in those places.
