About Us
Who We Are
We understand that a stable home is the foundation of a healthy, thriving community. Our goal is to eliminate housing insecurity by building affordable, quality homes and providing supportive services to families and individuals in need. We work hand-in-hand with local partners, volunteers, and donors to create homes that offer more than just shelter—they provide hope, stability, and a path to a brighter future.
Everyone Deserves a Safe, Stable Place to Call Home
Pukalani Nazarene Compassion Village is dedicated to creating a healing community for unhoused families in Maui, focusing on recovery, stabilization, and future transitions. Established about a year ago at the Pukalani Community Church of the Nazarene, the village has a strong history of service, community trust, and compassionate outreach.
Puka Naz has built four new two-bedroom homes along with two additional transitional homes off-site.
In response to the recent devastating fires in Maui, Pukalani Nazarene quickly mobilized to provide critical support, including shelter, bedding, toiletries, water, and food. Their natural next step was housing. Puka Naz has built four new two-bedroom homes on its two-acre property, along with two additional transitional homes off-site. These homes, designed to be energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, are fully equipped with modern amenities and powered by solar energy. The village emphasizes sustainable living, featuring raised garden beds, a community garden, and a chicken coop to promote healthy eating and self-sufficiency.
The Transitional Housing Program targets local families affected by the fires
It aims to provide secure housing for those who have lived in Maui for at least three years and have incomes at or below 120% of the area median income. The program prioritizes tenant autonomy, allowing families to choose the duration of their stay without long-term lease commitments. The tenants are placed on a small rental scale to encourage them to take ownership of their new home.
Pukalani Nazarene Compassion Village offers comprehensive support services, including access to counseling, transportation, and resources for economic independence.
With plans to expand its housing capacity further, the village remains committed to nurturing a supportive environment that meets the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of its community members. Through its mission, Pukalani Nazarene Compassion Village continues to be a beacon of hope and healing for those in need on the island.
